Ahmed is a lawyer who is barred from practising law because of Lebanese restrictions on Palestinians working in professional jobs. He married his Lebanese wife in 2002 and their children are Palestinian, in accordance with Lebanese nationality law. Ahmed’s sister is married to a Lebanese man and has acquired Lebanese nationality along with her children. Ahmed’s mother is also Lebanese. The house that his mother lives in was registered in his mother’s name before the 2001 law.

“My mother is very worried. No one can remove her as she is the owner but she knows that I cannot inherit it because I am Palestinian. She wishes to sell the apartment. She says that at least we can enjoy what is ours that way and live off the money.”
